The BMW presented the restyling of the 3 Series Saloon and Touring, one of the key models in its range, now on the market for 40 years and produced about 14 million copies. A modest aesthetic change is accompanied by an update of the entire family of engines, with the introduction of the new three, four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines of the EfficientDynamics family , all of aluminum with TwinPower Turbo technology. The updates to the suspension and the greater rigidity of the body will guarantee, according to the House, an even more precise and sporty driving, without sacrificing comfort. Finally, in 2016, the first plug-in hybrid version will also be introduced in the history of the model, a decisive step to remain competitive on the international markets. Features. The renewed BMW 3 Series offers redesigned optics with optional Full-Led technology and LED taillights and bmw german made auto cover for safty. The bumpers are also new, with the front one revised to also integrate the Active Cruise Control sensor (on request). The interior features unpublished finishes, new chrome profiles and a redesigned center console, with sliding cover in front of the gear lever. The new body colors (16 in all) and the interior colors can be combined thanks to the customizations offered by the Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport outfits.

All models have significantly reduced fuel consumption compared to previous versions, improving, at the same time, even performance: for the new entry-level three-cylinder BMW declares a time of 8, 9 seconds to touch the 100 km / h and a top speed of 210 km / h, while for the 340i one speaks of 5.1 seconds and 250 per hour self-limited. Infotainment. The continuous evolution of on-board electronics has allowed the introduction of the latest generation of the Professional navigation system, equipped with a high-speed LTE connection, on the new 3 Series too. The device will thus be able to update the local maps online (for the first three years all updates will be free) and will integrate the Preview assistant function to provide the automatic transmission with the data necessary to calculate the optimal ratio. 3D graphics will offer even better performance in urban areas, as well as the ConnectedDrive Services package with Concierge Service and apps such as Audible, Deezer, GoPro and Spotify, as well as an automatic emergency call in case of an incident.
History and profile
In the second half of 1995 the new generation of Series 5 was presented, distinguished by the designation E39 and destined to collect the E34 witness . The E39 was more successful than the ancestor. line, designed by Chris Bangle, is very clean and smooth, and in some details also muscular. Worthy of note are the connection between the front upright and rib of the engine bonnet, or the side scratches that give a very dynamic look. The picture is completed by a truncated tail and a connection between the tail itself and a very sloping pavilion. The front part resumed, updated, the concepts of the E36 and E38, with the classic round headlights with a transparent Plexiglas cover, while the classic double kidney was now set in the bonnet. The rear part abandoned the classic “step” headlights, in place of more classic and elegant spotlights, which were no longer broken by the opening of the boot, but designed its line. The interior was characterized by the classic cockpit oriented towards the driver, a thick briar molding, but above all by the quality of the materials used. In fact, the board was covered in a very soft leather effect abs, with a surface treatment that made it immune to aging. Classic upholstery coverings in the first series, characterized by the resistant Flock velvet or, on request, by a well-made leather. Even today, many purists of the House, consider the E39, along with the E46 coupé, the most beautiful BMW ever produced. In the design of the E39, the technicians have adopted different solutions to contain the mass, using aluminum alloy used for the suspensions , the wheel hubs and the brake calipers. Mechanically, the E39 provides the longitudinal front engine and rear-wheel drive . The brakes are disc (with front-ventilating type ones), while the front end provides an evolution of the previous scheme MacPherson , this time double-jointed, and the rear multilink proposes a solution, with arms anchored to the subframe.

Massive is the use of electronics: next to the multipoint electronic injection system with integrated ignition and air flow meter, there are devices for active safety, such as ABS and traction control (ASC + T), that prevents the car from breaking down in situations of poor grip, possibly disengageable to leave total control of the car to the driver. Internally, the E39 was more spacious than the previous model: even the rear area of the cockpit was more comfortable for the occupants, thanks to a few more centimeters recovered during the design phase. The comfort is also perceived before, thanks to the way power seats, steering wheel and mirrors. The driving seat was also characterized by the multifunction nature of the steering wheel which incorporates the controls of the radio and air conditioning system. At the time of the debut the range included the sedan versions with 6 and 8 cylinder engines, petrol or turbodiesel , coming (though revised in electronics and equipped, in some cases of Vanos system ) from the latest evolution of the previous E34 .
Back of an E39 Touring pre-restyling
Available initially only in the three-volume sedan configuration , from mid-1996 it is also proposed in Touring version , that is station wagon replacing the homonymous one based on the previous E34 . This version has some new design features, such as the rear end equipped with shock absorbersmore inclined, solution designed to give more space to the luggage compartment. In addition, the loading floor is sliding and can be removed to facilitate the loading of heavy objects. Aesthetically, the Touring is identical to the sedan up to the height of the second upright (except for the roof bars on the roof). The tail features optical groups similar to the previous version on an E34 basis, but modernized.
An E39 Touring Series 5
At the beginning of 1998 , the range was expanded with two new diesels that joined the 525tds: the 520d , equipped with the small four-cylinder derived from the 320d (16v 1951 cm³ by 136 bhp), and the 530d (6 cylinders in line 24v from 184 hp).

A separate chapter is the M5 version, also launched in 1998, which for the first time adopted a 400-liter five-liter V8, and was available only in the sedan configuration. In 1998, the Gamma was extended with the 530d, equipped with a modern turbo direct injection diesel, Common rail, which with a displacement of 2926cc was capable of delivering 184hp, becoming, for the time, the fastest series diesel of the world.

In June 2001 the Series 5 underwent a small restyling of the range. New ones were introduced that involved the front, with the classic pair of round headlights surrounded by a ring of optical fiber that served as position light, new bumper shields, led headlamps , grille with a larger chrome frame, and modifications of detail to the interiors.
The car is sent to the workshop, but who pays the repair costs?
First of all, we distinguish between the “guarantee” and the “Gewährleistung”, both of which are guarantees in Germany.
By means of a guarantee , which usually results from the contract, the company guarantees the operation of the vehicle (or some of its parts) for a certain period. After this period any defect or malfunction must always be repaired at the expense of the buyer.
With the Gewährleistung instead, the seller – by law and even if nothing is written in the contract – guarantees that at the time of purchase the vehicle has no defects. Therefore, if the vehicle you have purchased used, after some months, has serious defects to the engine or the electrical system, even if the contract does not say anything, it can (must) be repaired at the expense of the dealer.
How long does the Gewährleistung last?
In addition, the Gewährleistung lasts 12 or 24 months, so only if there is a defect in this period of time you can contact your dealer. Also consider that if the defect occurs during the first 6 months, the seller will have to show that this defect was not present at the time of sale of the car (which is very difficult). Not all faults trigger the obligation of repairs to be borne by the dealer: defects resulting from the wear and tear of the vehicle, mind you, are not included in the Gewährleistung. Moreover, that the Gewährleistung is only for the consumer and only in some cases, so we need to have the matter examined by a lawyer to understand what possibilities there are.
